Job summary

RED Engineering Design Limited in Newcastle is launching a structured graduate programme for Mechanical Design Engineers starting September 2027. You will work on data centre projects within a multidisciplinary team, gaining hands-on experience in design, inspection and project delivery.

You’ll receive mentoring, formal training, and support toward chartership while developing technical and business skills in a growing sector.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirement of BSc/BEng (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Basic knowledge of BIM and engineering software.
• Understanding of Health & Safety legislation.
• Strong IT skills (MS Office, spreadsheets, calculations).
• Previous experience or exposure in industry is desirable but not essential.
• Proactive, enthusiastic and organised approach with a willingness to learn and take ownership of tasks.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary teams.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically on technical challenges.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the design and delivery of engineering projects from day one.
• Benefit from structured training, mentoring, and support toward professional chartership.
• Develop designs using industry-leading software and BIM tools.
• Visit project sites, inspect works, and understand how designs translate to reality.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers and clients to deliver quality outcomes.
