Job description

Could you provide the steady support some students need to feel more settled and successful in school? Are you looking for meaningful secondary SEN experience before moving into educational or clinical psychology?

  • Graduate Learning Support Assistant
  • £85 - £101 per day
  • Academic Year - September 2026 to July 2027
  • “Good” secondary school, Wolverhampton
  • 1:1 and small group SEN support – Autism, ADHD, EBD
The Role

Provide 1:1 and small-group support for students with additional needs across the school day. You will help pupils manage routines, stay engaged in lessons, regulate behaviour, build confidence, and access learning more successfully, while working closely with teaching and pastoral staff to support progress. The SEND Code of Practice remains the core statutory guidance for identifying need, putting support in place, and reviewing its impact in schools.

The Candidate

You are calm, observant, and able to build positive relationships through consistency and clear communication. You want practical secondary school experience, you can stay patient in a busy setting, and you are interested in how focused support helps young people with Autism, ADHD, and EBD feel more secure and make better progress. Current school support vacancies continue to describe learning support roles as working with pupils with autism, ADHD and SEMH through targeted day-to-day support.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.
The School

This “Good” secondary school in Wolverhampton offers the chance to build valuable SEN experience in a setting where consistency, structure, and purposeful support matter. You will work closely with staff in a role that gives you direct exposure to practical intervention, student support, and the day-to-day strategies schools use to support pupils with additional needs. SEND-focused school roles are commonly used to help pupils with communication, interaction, social, emotional and mental health needs access learning more effectively.
