Job summary

Protocol Education are seeking a compassionate Learning Mentor to join an Ofsted-rated Good secondary school in Bristol. You will support students academically and emotionally, helping them overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Working with pastoral teams, you will lead targeted interventions, build relationships with staff and parents, and monitor progress to ensure every child can thrive.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with children or young people in education, mentoring, youth work or care settings.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Calm, patient and professional in challenging situations.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and welfare of children.
  • Experience with SEND/SEMH is desirable but not essential.

Responsibilities

  • Support students in overcoming barriers to learning and engagement.
  • Lead targeted interventions for individuals and small groups.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, SEND and EAL teams.
  • Supervise students and maintain a positive, focused learning environment.
  • Maintain records of progress and interventions.
  • Develop personalised action plans and conduct mentoring sessions.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing initiatives.

Job description

Protocol Education are currently recruiting for a compassionate and proactive Learning Mentor to join a welcoming Ofsted-rated Good secondary school in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential.

Working closely with the school's pastoral team, you will play a key role in supporting students both academically and emotionally, helping to create a positive environment where every child can thrive.

The Role

As a Learning Mentor, you will:

  • Work closely with the school's pastoral team to support students in overcoming barriers to learning and engagement.
  • Lead targeted interventions for individual students and small groups, promoting positive behaviour, wellbeing, and academic progress.
  • Build strong relationships with teachers, parents/carers, SEND staff and EAL teams to ensure a joined-up approach to student support.
  • Supervise and support students within designated learning spaces, ensuring they remain focused, engaged and supported throughout the school day.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, interventions and daily activities.
  • Develop and deliver personalised action plans for students identified as requiring additional support.
  • Conduct one-to-one mentoring sessions and small group interventions in line with school priorities.
  • Collaborate with the pastoral team to design and implement effective support strategies and intervention programmes.
  • Act as a positive role model, encouraging confidence, resilience and personal development.
The Ideal Candidate

  • The ability to remain calm, patient and professional in challenging situations.
  • A passion for supporting young people to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Experience working with students with SEND, SEMH or behavioural needs is desirable but not essential.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

What We Need to Clear You
