Job summary

Academics is working closely with a supportive primary school in Wokingham that is seeking a committed Learning & Inclusion Support Assistant to join their team from September 2026. This is an excellent long-term opportunity for a graduate looking to build valuable experience within education.

The role would suit someone considering a future career in teaching, educational psychology, counselling, speech and language therapy, child development, or SEN support.

Qualifications

  • A graduate with a genuine interest in education or supporting young people.
  • Patient, compassionate and resilient in challenging situations.
  • Confident communicator who builds strong relationships with children.
  • Calm, consistent and positive when supporting pupils with additional needs.
  • Team player keen to learn from experienced teachers and SEN professionals.
  • Interested in a future career in teaching, educational psychology, counselling or SEN.

Responsibilities

  • Providing targeted 1:1 support to pupils with SEN, SEMH needs and behavioural challenges.
  • Supporting pupils to engage with lessons and overcome barriers to learning.
  • Delivering and assisting with small-group interventions to develop academic skills.
  • Helping children develop emotional regulation, resilience and positive relationships.
  • Encouraging pupils to become more independent and confident in learning.
  • Working with class teachers, the SENCO and other professionals to implement support strategies.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils develop successful learning habits.
  • Creating a calm, safe and inclusive environment where all pupils can thrive.
