Job summary

BakerHicks in Manchester is looking for a 2027 Graduate Engineer to join our High Voltage Distribution team. You’ll learn through a two-year graduate scheme designed to develop you into a Chartered Engineer with hands-on design and project experience.

You’ll work on HV distribution projects up to 33kV, gain exposure to substations, switchgear, protection and control, and receive personalised training plus mentorship to support your progression toward chartership and professional registration.

Qualifications

• 2:1 in Electrical Engineering or closely related degree.
• Interest in 11kV/33kV HV networks, substations and protection systems.
• Willingness to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on office and site environments.

Responsibilities

• Assist with designs, calculations, reports and drawings for HV distribution projects.
• Support single line diagrams, cable sizing, protection coordination and earthing.
• Gain exposure to substations, switchgear, transformers, cabling and SCADA interfaces.
• Contribute to safety reviews and CDM-compliant environmental considerations.
