Job summary

Arup invites graduates to join our Ground Engineering team in Nottingham. The role involves investigating ground conditions, modelling data, and supporting early-stage design with Total Design principles across water, energy, rail and highways projects.

We value critical thinkers who embrace new ideas, with GIS/CAD/BIM skills and a willingness to learn. Visa sponsorship is not offered; applicants must have UK working rights and recently graduated or near graduation.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate Bachelor's / master's level (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering; Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Sciences; Geology/Geological Sciences/Earth Sciences; Mining Engineering; Geography & Geospatial Sciences; Materials Engineering / Science.
• A master's in engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Soil Mechanics or Environmental/Contaminated Land Science is desirable.
• Skills in GIS, CAD, coding, AI, BIM/3D ground modelling and prior industry experience are desirable but not essential.
• Applications from candidates pursuing a PhD in a ground engineering related area are welcome.

Responsibilities

• Assess site constraints, geological hazards and ground conditions to shape projects at early stages.
• Analyse ground investigation data to derive ground models and parameters for use in design.
• Represent Arup on site during ground investigations, earthworks and construction activities.
• Deliver Total Design by working with other disciplines for integrated solutions.
• Communicate clearly throughout all project stages, from optioneering to detailed design.

The Opportunity

We recruit across a range of degree level qualifications across engineering, geology and natural sciences. Your career may develop in many directions from investigating and modelling complex ground conditions, designing foundations, earthworks and tunnels, and remediating land impacted by historical uses including industry and mining. We deliver projects across all markets with a significant volume of water, energy, rail and highways projects alongside site development and buildings.

• Assessing site constraints, geological hazards and ground conditions to help shape projects at their early stages
• Analysing ground investigation data to derive ground models and parameters for use in design
• Representing Arup on site during ground investigations, earthworks and other construction activities
• Delivering Total Design by working closely with other disciplines to provide integrated project solutions
• Written and verbal communication during all stages of projects, from initial optioneering through to detailed design

For this opportunity, we are seeking the following qualifications, skills and attributes:

An Undergraduate Bachelor's / master's level (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering; Geotechnical Engineering, Environmental Sciences; Geology/Geological Sciences/ Earth Sciences; Mining Engineering; Geography & Geospatial Sciences; Materials Engineering / Science. • Full working rights in the country of application
• No more than 12 months of full-time experience in a comparable role
• Recently graduated, or on track to graduate, from your most recent degree, related to your role of choice, before employment starts.
