A supportive secondary school in Coventry is looking for a motivated Graduate English Teaching Assistant to join its team. This is an excellent opportunity to use your subject knowledge to support students with their English, literacy and communication skills while gaining valuable experience within the classroom.

What does the role involve?

You'll work alongside experienced English teachers, providing additional support to students across the curriculum. You'll help pupils develop their reading, writing and analytical skills, while encouraging greater confidence and independence in their learning.

The role will involve supporting students 1:1, in small groups and within the wider classroom, giving you experience working with a range of abilities and learning needs.

Key responsibilities

As a Graduate English Teaching Assistant, you will:

• Provide 1:1 and small-group supportacross the English curriculum
• Help students develop their reading, writing and comprehension skills
• Support pupils with essay writing, literary analysis and developing their ideas
• Assist teachers with classroom activities and differentiated learning tasks
• Encourage students to participate and engage positively with English
• Help learners develop confidence and independent study skills
• Provide additional literacy support to students who need it
• Work closely with English teachers and the wider school team
• Share feedback on student progress where appropriate

What are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have:

• An English, English Literature or closely related degree, ideally at 2:1 or above
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent subject knowledge and enthusiasm for English
• A genuine interest in working with young people
• Patience, resilience and a positive attitude
• Previous experience working with children or young people (desirable, but not essential)

Previous classroom experience isn\'t required. If you have strong subject knowledge, communicate confidently and are passionate about helping young people succeed, this could be an excellent opportunity for you.
