Job description

Atelier Ten are environmental design consultants, finding ways for buildings to tread more lightly on the planet.

And we are building services engineers. We know our way around all the elements that bring structures to life, from pipes to ducts to wires.

The Atelier Ten network is packed with specialists in a range of disciplines, all primed to guide our clients and collaborators through the design process. They are also there to develop our next crop of design experts and integrate new starters into our teams.

Our expertise in environmental design is what lays the groundwork for exceptional engineering design. We help create buildings with a sustainable impact that reaches beyond their site boundaries - high-performance buildings with a wider virtuous cycle firmly in mind.

As part of the SJ Company, Atelier Ten is part of a diverse collective of problem solvers with a global talent pool of 16,000 professionals across more than 120 offices in over 40 countries. This group is dedicated to creating a smart and sustainable future through progressive thinking and creative ideas.

About the Role

Atelier Ten are offering a graduate electrical role to technically minded people looking to start a career in the built environment. As a company and group of people keen on positive social and environmental impact in the work we do, we want to encourage people with the same outlook to reinforce these values.

We are looking for individuals determined to build their technical knowledge and experience by getting involved in the design of real-world projects.

What will a typical day look like?

As an electrical engineering graduate in building services, you spend your day working on both design and construction aspects of building projects. In the office, you work with specialised software like AutoCAD or Revit to design electrical systems such as power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, and data networks. You ensure that your designs meet safety regulations and energy efficiency standards while integrating smoothly with the mechanical, structural, and architectural aspects of the building.

Collaboration is key, so you frequently meet with senior engineers, project managers, and other teams to discuss project requirements, resolve technical issues, and adjust designs. You will also work on electrical load calculations, select appropriate equipment, and ensure compliance with local building codes.

While on site you will inspect ongoing construction work to verify that electrical systems are installed correctly and according to your designs.

Occasionally we will be invited to factories to learn about new products and technologies and how we can incorporate these into our designs.

Outside of office life, there are plenty of social occasions, such as joining a sports club or the annual softball match between junior and senior staff! We also have end of the month socials and bi-annual "culture days" - there really is something for everyone, even a weekly board games evening!

Graduate Mechanical Engineer - Eva Meadowcroft

Graduate Electrical Engineer - Manthan Patel

Graduate Environmental Designer - Agathe Chevee

What will you be working on?

We're excited to share with you the range of projects you would get to work on throughout your career with us. Recent examples include Google's new London HQ in Kings Cross, Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore, the National Theatre in London, and The Illuminated River project on the river Thames. These projects had a variety of impacts on the stakeholders involved, so please read more about how we put our problem-solving skills towards achieving our goal of finding ways for our buildings to tread more lightly on the planet.
