Job summary

West Midlands Combined Authority is seeking a motivated Workforce Development Graduate to join the People & Culture Services team as part of the WMCA Graduate Development Programme. You will help turn talent ambitions into practical delivery, gaining experience in programme coordination, data analysis, communications and stakeholder engagement.

This two-year FTC role sits within the Workforce Development & Professions team, supporting apprenticeships, work experience and WMCA Academy pathways.

Qualifications

  • Team-based experience from university, volunteering or employment.
  • Experience supporting projects, activities or events.
  • Proficient with Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, adaptable for different audiences.
  • Ability to work with diverse people and political sensitivity.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage priorities.
  • Self-motivated, takes initiative and delivers results.
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving with cost awareness.
  • Positive attitude to learning and change.
  • Understanding of WMCA’s role in regional growth.
  • Able to work in a hybrid remote/office environment.
  • Willingness to complete the full Graduate Development Programme.
  • Hold a minimum 2:2 undergraduate degree or Level 6 qualification.

Responsibilities

  • Support planning, onboarding and monitoring of apprenticeship programmes.
  • Coordinate work experience opportunities.
  • Develop WMCA Academy pathways for apprentices, graduates, interns and work experience participants.
  • Collect and analyse talent data including progression and diversity.
  • Develop case studies and communications showing social value of programmes.
  • Coordinate leadership development activity and programme tracking.
  • Maintain baseline, in-programme and post-programme data for evaluation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across People & Culture and external partners.
  • Support research, horizon scanning and strategic planning.
  • Maintain records, dashboards and digital systems for projects.
  • Support meetings, workshops and events and respond to inquiries.
  • Support Apprentices and Interns on shared workstreams.
  • Assist with purchase orders, invoices and expense tracking.
  • Complete Graduate Development Programme modules and assessments.
  • Participate in mentoring, networking and development opportunities.
  • Gain experience across workforce development, learning and development, programme coordination, data analysis and public sector People & Culture.
