Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd in Sheffield is seeking a Graduate Civil Engineer to join a growing engineering team. The role offers the chance to work on civil, structural and rail infrastructure projects and to develop technical abilities under the guidance of experienced engineers.

Ideal candidates have a degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering (or HNC/HND). A driving licence and ability to travel to project sites are required, with training and progression opportunities available.

Qualifications

• A degree, HNC or HND in Civil Engineering or a closely related subject.
• A good understanding of fundamental civil engineering principles.
• An interest in developing a career within infrastructure and rail engineering.
• Good communication and teamwork skills, alongside a methodical approach to problem-solving.
• Some knowledge of CAD or relevant engineering design packages.
• Previous rail or infrastructure experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
• Full UK driving licence and the ability to travel to the Sheffield office and project sites.
• Existing right to work in the UK.
• Live within a commutable distance to Sheffield.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the delivery of civil and structural engineering designs across infrastructure and rail projects.
• Support the preparation of technical calculations, design reports and project documentation.
• Help produce engineering drawings and designs in accordance with relevant industry standards and Eurocodes.
• Work closely with senior engineers and other disciplines to support project objectives.
• Participate in site visits, surveys, and inspections, gaining practical experience outside the office.
• Ensure engineering work is completed accurately and in line with project requirements, timescales, and budgets.
• Continue developing your technical knowledge through hands‑on project involvement and ongoing training.

Are you looking to kick-start your career in Civil Engineering and gain experience working on exciting infrastructure projects? An opportunity has become available for a Graduate Civil Engineer to join a growing engineering team in Sheffield.

This position would suit a recent graduate or someone with an HNC/HND in Civil Engineering who is keen to develop their technical abilities within a professional engineering environment.
