Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd. is seeking a Graduate Civil Engineer in Huddersfield to gain hands‑on experience across highways, drainage and infrastructure design. You will work within an established consultancy team, guided by experienced engineers, on residential, commercial and industrial developments.

The role provides exposure to technical drawings, calculations and reports, with ongoing professional development and training support. A UK driving licence and right to work in the UK are required.

Qualifications

• A degree in Civil Engineering, either recently achieved or nearing completion.
• An enthusiasm for developing a career in civil engineering consultancy.
• An interest in highways, drainage, and development infrastructure.
• Strong communication skills, with a proactive and organised approach to work.
• A willingness to learn new software, develop technical skills and work as part of a team.
• Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D or MicroDrainage would be advantageous, training can be provided.
• A full UK driving licence or the ability to travel to project sites when necessary.
• The full right to work in the UK.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the design and development of highway and drainage infrastructure for a variety of development schemes.
• Produce and contribute to technical drawings, engineering calculations, specifications, and reports.
• Support highway design projects, including access arrangements, highway improvements and Section 38 and Section 278 agreements.
• Gain experience in drainage design, drainage strategies, SuDS and wider infrastructure planning.
• Liaise with senior engineers and other project professionals to support the successful delivery of projects.
• Develop your understanding of relevant design standards, technical requirements, and industry practices.
• Build practical experience from initial project concepts through to detailed design and delivery.
