Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is recruiting a Graduate Civil Design Engineer for its 2027 Early Careers programme, based in Derby. The role offers hands-on responsibility, learning through real projects and progression towards professional accreditation within a leading UK infrastructure group.

You will work with Power T&D teams, supporting design development, coordination and documentation across the project lifecycle, while building technical and professional capabilities for a successful career in civil

Qualifications

• Requires a Civil Engineering degree with a minimum 2:2 honours.
• Eligible to start on the 2027 Early Careers programme.
• Demonstrates a genuine interest in civil infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to development of engineering solutions for major infrastructure projects.
• Assist in producing and coordinating technical drawings, models and design information.
• Support the project lifecycle from bid through delivery with multidisciplinary teams.
• Develop professional skills towards accreditation and chartership.
• Help manage design information flow and ensure alignment with standards and requirements.
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to resolve design queries and maintain communications.
• Maintain design documentation with accuracy, version control and progress tracking.
• Identify risks and opportunities, including value engineering and buildability considerations.
• Support quality assurance to meet design deliverables to required standards.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering
