Job summary

PHL Group in Cambridge is seeking an experienced Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join Cottenham Surgery's multidisciplinary team. You will perform clinical duties such as health checks, phlebotomy, ECGs, wound care and vaccinations, while maintaining accurate records on SystmOne.

The role is 22.5 hours per week with pay of £15 per hour. The successful candidate will have at least two years’ primary care HCA experience, a Care Certificate, strong communication skills and a patient-centred approach

Qualifications

• At least 2 years’ experience as HCA/HCSW in primary care.
• Care Certificate or equivalent qualification required.
• Experience in phlebotomy, wound care and chronic disease management.
• Experience participating in incident, complaint or investigation processes.
• Understanding of safeguarding (adult and child) up to Level 3.
• Strong patient-centred care, confidentiality and consent guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Carry out new patient health checks and long-term condition reviews/work-ups.
• Undertake phlebotomy and blood collection, including for warfarin clinics.
• Perform and record ECGs.
• Provide wound care and simple dressings.
• Support B12 and flu vaccination clinics.
• Process and manage clinical lab samples per procedures.
• Maintain vaccine storage and cold-chain requirements.
• Keep accurate clinical records and use practice IT systems (SystmOne).
• Ensure rooms are clean and stocked; follow infection control and safety procedures.
• Escalate changes in patient condition and participate in meetings and CPD.
