Job summary

Woodcote Medical in Coulsdon is recruiting a part-time Health Care Assistant for 18 hours a week to join the clinical team. The post focuses on patient-facing clinical work, including observations, phlebotomy, vaccinations and health checks within a GP practice with two branches.

The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of HCA experience in a GP surgery or similar setting and a relevant healthcare qualification such as Care Certificate or NVQ Level 3.

Responsibilities

• Undertake phlebotomy and record specimens for transport.
• Administer vaccinations and injections.
• Carry out NHS health checks and BMI checks.
• Take observations (pulse, BP, temperature) and record them accurately.
• Carry out ECGs as requested.
• Support minor operations and clinic activities.
• Prepare and stock clinical rooms for each session.
• Deliver opportunistic health promotion to patients.

Job description

Woodcote Medical, a GP practice with two branches, is recruiting a part‑time Health Care Assistant for 18 hours a week within its clinical team. The post centres on patient‑facing clinical work, including observations, phlebotomy, vaccinations and health checks. Candidates need at least a year's HCA experience in a GP surgery or similar setting and must be willing to work across both branches as required. A relevant healthcare qualification, such as the Care Certificate or NVQ Level 3, is also expected.

What the job involves

• Undertake phlebotomy, and record and prepare specimens for onward transport
• Administer vaccinations and injections
• Carry out NHS health checks and BMI checks
• Take observations (pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate) and record them accurately
• Carry out ECGs as requested
• Undertake diabetes pre-checks
• Act as chaperone as required
• Support minor operations and coil clinics as required
• Prepare and stock clinical rooms for each session, and order clinical supplies
• Remove clinical waste and replace sharps bins under the IPC policy
• Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
• Work as part of the wider multidisciplinary practice team

Qualifications

• Relevant healthcare qualification, such as Care Certificate or NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care

Experience

• Minimum 1 year working as a Health Care Assistant in a GP surgery or similar healthcare setting
