Job summary

Abbeywell Surgery is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join our nursing team in a large GP practice. You will carry out basic observations, take patient histories, prepare consultation rooms and support minor procedures.

The role requires GCSE English and Maths and experience in a GP surgery. You will work well in a team, uphold infection control, and keep clear records. Learning and development support is available, with a friendly multidisciplinary team.

Qualifications

• GCSE English and Maths at grade A–C are required.
• Relevant healthcare assistant qualifications/certifications are required.
• Proven experience as a healthcare assistant in a GP surgery or primary care setting is required.

Responsibilities

• Assist healthcare professionals in delivering high-quality patient care.
• Carry out basic health checks and measure vital signs.
• Take patient histories and update electronic records.
• Prepare and maintain examination rooms for consultations.
• Assist with minor medical procedures as directed.
• Support appointment scheduling and prescription requests.
• Follow infection control protocols and hygiene standards.
• Communicate clearly with patients and provide reassurance.
• Collaborate with GPs and nurses to coordinate patient care and participate in team meetings.
