Job summary

Abbey Medical Practice in a GP training environment is seeking a Healthcare Assistant to join the clinical team. The role involves hands-on support for observations, phlebotomy, ECGs, NHS Health Checks and chronic disease clinics, over 25–30 hours per week.

The post holder will work with GPs and nurses, maintain accurate SystmOne records, and support health promotion and IPC-compliant tasks. Vaccinations are not included. Level 3/4 healthcare qualification or current training is required.

Qualifications

• Healthcare qualification level 3 or 4 (or working towards equivalent)
• Experience in healthcare settings such as primary care or community health
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage with patients
• Proficiency with clinical notes and IT systems (SystmOne)

Responsibilities

• Take and record vital signs including BP, pulse, height, weight and BMI
• Perform NHS Health Checks and new patient health checks
• Carry out phlebotomy/venepuncture and prepare specimens
• Record ECGs and monitor patient data
• Support chronic disease monitoring clinics
• Perform urinalysis, simple wound care and dressings
• Assist GPs and nurses with procedures and minor operations
• Support routine and 24-hour BP monitoring
• Act as chaperone when required
• Contribute to health promotion and IPC compliant practice
• Prepare clinical rooms and manage stock and waste in line with IPC
