We are looking for a Training Quality Assessor to join our Global Training team – someone passionate about improving learning outcomes, supporting trainers, and ensuring our training provision remains best-in-class across every region we operate in.

This role plays a pivotal part in delivering the Global Training and Documentation strategy by driving the implementation of the global training quality framework. It is responsible for ensuring that Smiths Detection’s training provision remains consistent, credible, and of the highest standard across all regions.

The postholder will lead on all training quality assurance activities, including course and material validation, trainer observations, feedback, and mentorship. By supporting trainers in developing best practice and adopting innovative delivery methods, this role strengthens capability across the global training community.

acting as a subject matter expert, the individual will also contribute to the instructional and digital learning design pillar of the department, providing guidance to ensure all training activities align with established standards and regulatory requirements.

In addition, the role will directly support and advise the Senior Manager for Global Delivery and Quality, enabling the Quality Manager to focus on strategic priorities while ensuring quality assurance processes, trainer development initiatives, and CPD coordination are effectively executed and scaled.

The postholder will also hold line management responsibility for a team of trainers, ensuring they are supported, motivated, and continuously developed in line with departmental goals.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct Observations & Provide Feedback – Support trainers in the early stages of their professional teaching journey, including those working towards formal qualifications. Maintain credibility and alignment with departmental standards by applying a strong training background (ideally Level 5 or Cert Ed).
  • SEN & Wellbeing Lead – Act as the department’s first point of contact for Special Educational Needs (SEN) and wellbeing requests, providing guidance and support where required.
  • Accreditation & Awarding Body Liaison – Serve as the key contact for external accreditation and awarding bodies (e.g., CMI, City & Guilds, CPD Standards Office), ensuring compliance and effective communication.
  • Quality Assurance – Implement and maintain the department’s Quality Assurance framework, policies, and standards.
  • Validation of Training – Conduct both internal and external validation of training activities to ensure quality, consistency, and alignment with customer and stakeholder requirements.
  • Data Analysis & Insight – Collate, analyse, and interpret observation and feedback data to provide actionable insights that inform departmental strategy and decision-making.
  • CPD Design & Communication – Coordinate and communicate Continuing Professional Development (CPD) sessions across the global trainer community, using established templates, frameworks, and communication channels.
  • Trainer Development – Deliver initial trainer programmes, knowledge transfer sessions, and coaching/mentoring for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Feedback & Continuous Improvement – Ensure 360-degree feedback is gathered from training events, communicated effectively, and acted upon in a timely manner to enhance training delivery and materials. Maintain proactive communication with customers, technical services, and other stakeholders.
  • Mentorship & Professional Practice – Act as a mentor to trainers, encouraging reflection and supporting the ongoing development of their teaching practice.
  • Competency Management – Maintain accurate records of trainer competencies within the department’s trainer matrix, ensuring compliance and currency.
  • Innovation in Teaching & Learning – Facilitate ongoing dialogue across the department regarding teaching and learning, championing innovative pedagogical approaches and leading their integration into practice.
  • Quality Oversight of Training Materials – Act as a quality consultant for the development of digital and instructor-led training resources, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and standardisation across multiple locations.
Qualifications
Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Education:

Must hold a minimum of a level 4 Training or Teaching qualification or equivalent.

Knowledge/Skills:

  • Able to respond in a timely way to global staff from different time zones.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Individuals must be proficient in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations and adapt to changing priorities.

Experience:

The role holder should be an experienced teacher or trainer with a proven record of outstanding performance. They should also be a knowledgeable training quality assessor with a history of successfully implementing training quality policies. Additionally, the role requires effective managerial skills to lead a diverse team of professionals across multiple locations.

  • Interprets and administers policies, processes and procedures that may affect sections and subordinate work units.

  • Erroneous decisions will result in critical delays and modifications to projects or operations and jeopardize future business activity.
Key Internal and External Relationships

The role holder will establish and maintain stakeholder relationships with Product Managers and Product Specialists, Global Regional Service Managers, Regional Service Leads and occasionally Service Senior Leadership Team members.
