Job summary

Sonoco, a global packaging leader, seeks a Sustainability Compliance Specialist to support the execution of our packaging strategy and regulatory needs. The role focuses on design requirements, EPR, CSRD, and supply chain compliance, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders.

You will analyze market insights, manage communication, and assist in global SEDEX/SMETA activities, with travel ~10%. Located onsite in Europe (Germany or France).

Qualifications

• BS or BA degree with sustainability background.
• 2–4 years of sustainability and/or regulatory experience, preferably in packaging.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills across global teams.

Responsibilities

• Support trials and recyclability investigations on lab or industrial scale globally.
• Coordinate SEDEX / SMETA activities globally.
• Identify and implement continuous improvements.

Wir stellen an mehr als 70 europäischen Standorten Verpackungen für eine Vielzahl von Branchen und zahlreiche der angesehensten Marken der Welt her, die an Kunden in 85 Ländern geliefert werden. An den Standorten Hockenheim und Lübeck werden Papierdosen für zahlreiche namhafte Lebensmittel- Tabak- und andere Herstelle der Konsumgütersparte produziert. An unserem Standort in Zwenkau wiederrum werden Lebensmittelverkaufsverpackungen aus recyclefähigem Kunststoff erstellt, wie zum Beispiel Verpackungen für Joghurt, Wurst- und Käseprodukte oder Speiseeis.

While reporting to the Global Sustainability Manager, the Global Sustainability Compliance Specialist will have a focus on product sustainability and supports Sonoco's global sustainable packaging activities across the corporation. The Sustainability Specialist manages internal and external stakeholder engagement on sustainability-related aspects of Sonoco's packaging. This includes but is not limited to developing internal and external communication supporting the Sonoco's sustainability efforts, managing tool development on sustainability-related databases, coordinating compliance activities, and reporting sustainability activities across the business. This position handles moderate to complex issues and problems, and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Performs work under limited supervision.

What You'll Be Doing

• Support the execution of Sonoco's global sustainable packaging strategy and business unit-level regulatory needs
• Review global legal requirements, with a special focus on packaging design (PPWR), extended producer responsibility (EPR), reporting (CSRD), supply chains (EUDR, CSDDD) and external communication (EmpCo), and coordinate implementation in collaboration with internal stakeholders
• Collect and analyze market and customer insights to collaborate with business units developing sustainable products which meet legal requirements, market expectation and corporate goals
• Handle customer requests and optimize documentation and feedback processes using modern IT tools
• Represent Sonoco in selected associations of the packaging industry; monitor of and contribute to the relevant focus areas
• Support with the organization of internal guidelines, webinars, trainings, newsletters
• Support trials and recyclability investigations on lab or industrial scale globally
• Support with the global coordination of SEDEX / SMETA activities in Sonoco
• Identify and implement continuous improvements

This is an onsite position located in Hockenheim, Germany or Paris, France .

• Willingness to travel (10%)
• BS or BA degree with a background of sustainability
• 2 to 4 years of experience with sustainability and/or regulatory compliance principles, preferably in the context of packaging
• Language: Native language + English
• Interest to identify and analyze information, including legislation and industry standards
• Ability to effectively communicate findings and key issues both internally and externally
• Aptitude to support the development of novel concepts and solutions
• Ability to build collaborative relationships globallyAbility to effectively network internally to gain support in achieving objectives
• Ability to mediate between technical, commercial and sustainability requirements
