Job summary

Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer in London is seeking a conflicts specialist for the NB&ER team to manage conflict checks on every new matter globally, ensure adherence to risk management procedures, and support client and matter intake processes.

The role requires applying US conflict rules, drafting waivers, and advising partners and foreign-qualified lawyers on legal and ethical questions, with a focus on information barriers and matter risk assessment.

Qualifications

• Law degree/LPC.
• Understanding of US conflicts rules and their application.
• 1 year in professional services environment in conflicts compliance or similar (relevant competencies).
• Understanding of the legal and professional regime applying to conflicts of interest and confidential information.
• Strong research and analytical skills.
• Excellent commercial awareness.
• Ability to prioritise workloads.
• Attention to detail and accuracy.
• Autonomy with ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Clear verbal, written and face-to-face communication skills.
• Knowledge of Microsoft programs and research resources.
• Ability to work well under pressure and to deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Managing conflict checks on every new matter globally to identify and resolve conflicts.
• Applying US rules to identify conflict of interests.
• Drafting conflict waivers in accordance with US conflict rules.
• Consulting with and advising Conflicts Analysts and foreign-qualified lawyers on legal and ethical questions under US law as needed.
• Liaising with the Financial Crime team on the Matter Risk Assessment.
• Influencing design and optimisation of conflicts and information barrier management technology and projects.
