OceaniQ delivers industry-leading GIS data, route engineering, permitting and survey services for subsea cable projects worldwide.

The GIS Officer will work as part of the GIS and Charting team to deliver cable data services to the wider industry. The role involves compiling, checking and processing raw data from a variety of formats into the corporate GIS databases, as well as assisting in updating and managing of various submarine cable-related databases.

You will need excellent attention to detail, a methodical approach and the ability to work effectively as part of a team. From time to time, the role may also involve assisting with cable route studies and cable permitting activities.

Key Deliverables:
  • Compilation, validation and data input of raw geographic data from a wide range of internal and external sources for inclusion in GIS databases, ensuring accuracy, consistency and completeness of records.
  • Operation of GIS software to capture, edit, analyse and present spatial data in support of project delivery and ongoing database maintenance.
  • Updating GIS databases with new, revised and corrected information, maintaining high data quality standards and supporting effective version control and record management.
  • Produce accurate project-related maps, charts and other spatial outputs to support internal teams, client deliverables and project reporting requirements.
  • Use submarine cable repair reports and related technical information to interpret changes in asset status and update GIS records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Provide ad hoc GIS and data support to the OceaniQ Team as well as the wider Global Marine Group, assisting with spatial analysis, data preparation and project-related information requests as required.
Required:
  • Qualification in suitable GIS course or a course with substantial GIS content or relevant GIS work-based experience.
  • Experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS, GeoMedia, QGIS or similar platforms to manage, analyse and present spatial data effectively.
  • Familiarity with databases, data processing and data management, with an understanding of the importance of data quality, structure and traceability.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint, for data handling, reporting and presentation purposes.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain spatial information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Excellent attention to detail, with a careful and methodical approach to checking data, identifying discrepancies and maintaining accurate records.
  • Confident in compiling clear, accurate written reports and supporting documentation for internal use, project work and client-related outputs.
  • An excellent team player, able to work collaboratively with colleagues across GIS, engineering and permitting functions while also managing individual tasks effectively.
Ideal:
  • Marine GIS experience, ideally with exposure to subsea cable, offshore, hydrographic or wider marine-related spatial datasets and workflows.
  • Experience of building ArcGIS Online sites, web maps or related applications to help share spatial information with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Understanding of the submarine cable industry.
  • A willingness to embrace new ways of working.
  • An aggressive spotter of issues and solutions to problems.
