Job summary

Fugro in Wallingford is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead the geotechnical laboratory as it expands into rock testing. The role is on-site, 37.5 hours per week, reporting to the Team Lead - Rock Testing and guiding a team of technicians to deliver high-quality data for infrastructure and energy projects.

You will establish processes, manage safety and quality, coordinate testing workloads, and collaborate with clients and stakeholders while travelling occasionally for offshore or field

Qualifications

• Experience in a laboratory or regulated technical environment with health & safety knowledge.
• Experience supervising or mentoring team members in a technical, operational or laboratory setting.
• Strong organisational and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and ability to record, analyse and report technical data using Microsoft 365 applications (Excel).
• Educational background in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology or related discipline advantageous.
• Desirable: experience in geotechnical soil and rock testing.
• Knowledge of laboratory quality systems or LIMS.

Responsibilities

• Lead the day-to-day operation of the geotechnical laboratory, delivering testing programmes on time and to quality standards.
• Help establish and grow Fugro's rock testing capability, developing processes and best practices.
• Supervise and coach a team of laboratory technicians to create a high-performing environment.
• Perform geotechnical testing on soil, rock and aggregates per industry standards and client specs.
• Monitor lab performance, plan resources and schedule work to improve productivity and service.
• Ensure accurate recording, analysis and reporting of test data with robust QA.
• Act as operational contact for laboratory activities, collaborating with stakeholders and clients.
• Promote safety culture through risk assessments and QHSE compliance.
