Job summary

Network Rail in the United Kingdom is seeking a Design Engineer - Geotechnical to join our Engineering Services team. You will develop and assess geotechnical design proposals, ensure compliance with Network Rail standards, and collaborate with multiple disciplines across regions.

The role emphasises safety, quality and continuous improvement, with opportunities to work on diverse projects and with stakeholders across the rail network.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or equivalent industry-recognised training qualification.
• Demonstrable aptitude for option development.
• Strong evaluation and decision-making skills.
• Working knowledge of rail engineering; experience in the principal discipline and understanding of related disciplines.
• Ability to work and communicate effectively in a team context.
• Awareness of life cycle stages of rail infrastructure.
• CDM, risk assessment and external audit competency.

Responsibilities

• Shape and manage engineering proposals from early development through detailed design.
• Review technical data and support cross-discipline checks.
• Monitor progress and manage change throughout schemes.
• Support construction design management to ensure schemes are well prepared to move forward.
