Matchtech is seeking a Geotechnical Design Engineer to deliver geotechnical design for major rail and energy projects across the UK. You will contribute to ground investigation planning, design analyses, and technical reporting within a collaborative team.

Qualifications

• Degree in Geotechnical/Cesil Engineering or related field.
• Experience delivering geotechnical design in consultancy or contractor environments.
• Proficiency with geotechnical design software (PLAXIS, Slope/W, Wallap, Oasys).
• Strong understanding of UK geotechnical standards and design methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Deliver geotechnical design for rail and energy projects including foundations, earthworks, retaining structures, slopes and ground improvement solutions.
• Prepare geotechnical calculations, design reports, risk assessments and design certificates.
• Support ground investigation scoping, supervision, interpretation, and report production.
• Collaborate with civil, structural and electrical teams to integrate geotechnical solutions into broader designs.
• Ensure compliance with Eurocode 7, Network Rail standards, CDM, and internal QA processes.
• Provide input during feasibility, optioneering and value engineering stages.
• Engage with clients, contractors and stakeholders to support project delivery and resolve technical queries.

A leading engineering consultancy is seeking a Geotechnical Design Engineer to support the delivery of major rail and infrastructure projects across the UK. This role offers exposure to technically challenging schemes including potentially in multiple sectors of UK infrastructure.

You'll join an established geotechnical team responsible for ground investigation planning, geotechnical analysis, foundation and retaining structure design, earthworks assessments, and technical reporting. The position is ideal for engineers looking to deepen their technical expertise and progress toward senior or chartered status while working on nationally significant infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver geotechnical design for rail and energy projects, including foundations, earthworks, retaining structures, slopes, and ground improvement solutions.
• Prepare geotechnical calculations, design reports, risk assessments, and design certificates.
• Support ground investigation scoping, supervision, interpretation, and production of factual and interpretive reports.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (civil, structural, electrical) to integrate geotechnical solutions into wider project designs.
• Ensure compliance with relevant standards including Eurocode 7, Network Rail standards, CDM regulations, and internal quality processes.
• Provide technical input during feasibility, optioneering, and value engineering stages.
• Engage with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to support project delivery and resolve technical queries.

Required Experience & Skills

• Degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or a related discipline.
• Experience delivering geotechnical design within consultancy or contractor environments.
• Proficiency with geotechnical design software such as PLAXIS, Slope/W, Wallap, Oasys, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of UK geotechnical standards, ground modelling, and design methodologies.
• Experience working on rail, substations, BESS or other energy infrastructure is highly advantageous.
• Strong technical writing skills and ability to produce clear, concise design documentation.
