Job summary

NES Fircroft is seeking a Senior Design Engineer (Geotechnical) to lead geotechnical design across major UK water and wastewater projects from concept through construction.

You will coordinate with civil, structural, process and construction teams, review ground investigations, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring buildability and technical excellence. This role offers exposure to design & build environments and long-term career development.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil/Geotechnical Engineering.
• CEng or working towards chartership.
• Experience in geotechnical design within infrastructure projects.
• Experience with ground investigations, foundations and earthworks.

Responsibilities

Major Water Infrastructure Projects | UK

Are you an experienced Geotechnical Engineer looking to take the next step into a senior technical role, or an established Senior Design Engineer seeking involvement on some of the UK's largest water infrastructure programmes?

NES Fircroft has been exclusively retained by a leading Tier 1 infrastructure contractor delivering major water and wastewater projects across key UK frameworks. This is an opportunity to play a pivotal role in the design and delivery of complex civil engineering schemes, working closely with multidisciplinary design, engineering and construction teams.

As a Senior Design Engineer (Geotechnical), you will provide technical leadership on a range of geotechnical challenges, supporting projects from concept design through to construction and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities

In this Senior Design Engineer (Geotechnical) role, your responsibilities will include:

• Leading geotechnical design activities across major water and wastewater infrastructure projects
• Producing and reviewing geotechnical designs including foundations, retaining structures, earthworks and excavation support solutions
• Managing and interpreting ground investigation data to develop practical design solutions
• Undertaking and reviewing geotechnical calculations, assessments and technical reports
• Coordinating with civil, structural, process and construction teams throughout project delivery
• Supporting buildability reviews and providing geotechnical input during design development
• Managing technical interfaces with clients, contractors and specialist consultants
• Providing mentoring and support to junior engineers where required

To Be Successful, You Will Need:

• A degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related discipline
• Significant experience in geotechnical design within infrastructure, water, utilities, highways, rail or major civil engineering projects
• Experience with ground investigations, foundation design, earthworks and geotechnical assessments
• Working knowledge of relevant geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, Oasys, WALLAP, Slope/W, GeoStudio or similar packages
• Experience working within contractor-led, Design & Build or major infrastructure environments
• Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or actively working towards chartership
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
