Job summary

Health & Social Care Recruitment Agency seeks a General Practitioner to join the Prison Healthcare team at HMP Hewell in Redditch, Worcestershire. This permanent post covers out-of-hours care for a male prison population aged 21 and over, delivering broad medical services and supporting continuity of care.

Qualifications

  • MBChB or MBBS qualification.
  • Inclusion on the General Medical Council (GMC) Register and the GP Performers List.
  • Evidence of annual appraisals and ongoing continuing professional development.
  • Experience working as a General Practitioner within community general practice.
  • Experience supporting patients with a history of substance misuse.
  • RCGP Certificate in Substance Misuse Levels 1 and 2, or willingness to complete these qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality healthcare to a diverse prison population, managing a broad range of clinical needs.
  • Conduct clinical assessments and diagnoses, making informed and timely decisions regarding patient management.
  • Act as a specialist clinical resource for patients and colleagues while contributing to clinical governance and service improvement initiatives.
  • Facilitate first-night prescribing and urgent follow-up care in collaboration with senior nursing staff.
  • Participate in substance misuse prescribing and discharge planning to ensure continuity of care.
