Job description
Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join us as we expand our consultant team. This post forms part of our newly designed consultant rota with attending weeks covering the general paediatric and acute pathway including the short stay unit. All consultants participate in the acute out of hours rota providing a resident late shift (1700-2130) and non-resident on call, both 1:14. In addition this post will give the opportunity to provide clinics according to interest.

Department and Services

The paediatric department at the West Middlesex site is a busy local general hospital providing high quality paediatric care for the local population. The unit comprises general paediatric inpatient ward (Starlight), a dedicated paediatric short stay unit (PSSU), a day case unit (Sunshine) and paediatric outpatient facilities. We work closely with our colleagues in the paediatric emergency department, including a dedicated PEM consultant team, providing assessment and care for acutely unwell children. We have recently launched a community based, nurse-led hospital at home service and the post-holder will have opportunities for innovation and leadership within the ambulatory service.

We are a popular training unit with a focus on education and support a large number of paediatric and GP trainees as well as teaching medical students. There is scope to develop interests in teaching, education and educational supervision.

The successful applicant will join our team providing excellent paediatric care to our local children and families. We are a friendly and supportive team within a trust that benefits from a wide range of coaching and leadership programs to support professional development. We would love to meet you for an informal visit.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Provide general paediatric and acute care, contribute to the rota including resident late shifts (1700–2130) and non-resident on-call duties (1:14).
  • Offer clinics in line with clinical interest and departmental needs.
  • Join a team delivering paediatric care across inpatient, short stay, day case and outpatient services.
  • Collaborate with the paediatric emergency department and PEM consultants to assess and manage acutely unwell children.
  • Engage in teaching, education and educational supervision as part of a strong training culture.
  • Contribute to innovation and leadership within ambulatory services and the hospital at home model where applicable.
Trust, Location and Facilities

We are one of the best performing trusts in the country and among the top trusts to work for, with staff engagement and motivation reflected in positive feedback. The Care Quality Commission rated the Trust as Good in all five domains (safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led) with an overall Good rating, and we have an Outstanding rating for use of resources from an NHS Improvement inspection. Our facilities are among the best in the country, with ongoing investment in the estate and expansion of critical care facilities and redevelopment of the children’s unit in partnership with CW+ and generous donors.
