Job summary

Holcim is seeking a General Operative at Callow Quarry in the UK. The role offers varied, hands-on work across quarry operations, with shifts from early morning and optional overtime on Saturdays.

Responsibilities

• Operate mobile plant and perform pre-use checks to support material handling around the quarry.
• Support fixed production equipment to maintain output and dispatch materials as required.
• Dispatch materials to customers ensuring timely delivery and accurate loading.
• Carry out routine quality checks on materials and report issues promptly.
• Provide weighbridge cover and accurately record vehicle movements.
• Inspect plant and equipment for faults and coordinate with maintenance colleagues.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards across the site and keep areas clean and safe.
• Coordinate with maintenance to support safe completion of tasks and continuous operations.
• Follow site health, safety and environmental procedures and wear required PPE.
• Work as part of a team, adapting to priorities and helping the site run smoothly.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a General Operative to join our team at Callow Quarry. This is a varied, hands-on role offering the opportunity to develop a broad range of skills across quarry operations, from operating mobile plant and supporting production activities to providing cover for the site weighbridge. Working Monday to Friday, with shifts of either 05:30–15:30 or 06:30–16:30, you'll also have opportunities for overtime on Saturday mornings. You'll play an important part in a close-knit team, helping to keep the quarry operating safely, efficiently and to the high standards our customers and colleagues expect. No two days will necessarily be the same, making this an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys variety, takes pride in their work and is keen to learn. Whether you're supporting the production of quality materials, assisting with the day-to-day running of the site or helping ensure vehicles are processed efficiently, your contribution will make a real difference to the wider operation. Key Responsibilities

• Operating mobile plant: Safely operating mobile plant and equipment, following site procedures and completing the necessary pre-use checks to support the movement and handling of materials around the quarry.
• Supporting production activities: Assisting with the operation of fixed production plant, helping to maintain consistent output and ensuring materials are produced and dispatched in line with operational requirements.
• Dispatching materials: Supporting the efficient movement and dispatch of products, helping to ensure vehicles are loaded appropriately and materials reach customers in a timely manner.
• Monitoring product quality: Carrying out routine checks and monitoring materials to help maintain product quality and ensure any concerns are identified and reported promptly.
• Providing weighbridge cover: Providing holiday and sickness cover for the site weighbridge, accurately processing vehicle movements, recording information and using computer-based systems to support the smooth running of site traffic.
• Carrying out inspections: Completing routine plant and equipment inspections, identifying potential issues and reporting faults or maintenance requirements to the appropriate colleagues.
• Maintaining site standards: Taking pride in maintaining excellent housekeeping standards across the site, helping to ensure working areas remain clean, organised and safe.
• Supporting maintenance activities: Working alongside maintenance colleagues and contractors where required, helping to coordinate operational activities and support the safe completion of maintenance work.
• Working safely: Following all site health, safety and environmental procedures, using the appropriate personal protective equipment and actively contributing to a positive safety culture.
• Working as part of the team: Supporting colleagues across different areas of the operation, adapting to changing priorities and helping ensure the site continues to run smoothly and efficiently.
