Job summary

FM Conway Ltd is seeking a practical General Maintenance Operative to join our Facilities and Property team, supporting 32 depots, including eight asphalt plants. A long-wheelbase company van is provided to help you carry out duties across a wide area.

You will handle reactive and planned maintenance, basic plumbing and carpentry tasks, and help with office furniture setups, always prioritising safety and compliance.

Qualifications

• Experience in general building maintenance, facilities maintenance or handyman roles.
• Good practical knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry and general repairs.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Flexible approach to a variety of maintenance tasks with health & safety awareness.
• Full UK driving licence is essential.

Responsibilities

• Respond to maintenance requests and carry out repairs promptly.
• Complete planned maintenance tasks in line with schedules and compliance.
• Undertake basic plumbing repairs and fix leaks or water-related issues.
• Carry out minor carpentry, painting, decorating and general building repairs.
• Assemble, install and dismantle office furniture as required.
• Identify and report safety concerns and potential hazards.
• Support the Facilities and Property team with ad-hoc site duties.
• Use Trackplan to manage maintenance requests and record work.

Job description

FM Conway is looking for a practical and proactive General Maintenance Operative to join our Facilities and Property team. Supporting our 32 depots, including eight operational asphalt plants, you'll play an important role in ensuring our sites remain safe, functional and well maintained.

Working across a geographical area stretching from Leicester to Northington, you'll enjoy a varied, hands-on role where no two days are necessarily the same. You'll be provided with a long-wheelbase company van to help you carry out your duties.

We use a maintenance management system called Trackplan to manage day-to-day maintenance requests and support the wider Facilities and Property team.

The duties of the General Maintenance Operative role will include:

• Responding promptly to maintenance requests, identifying faults and carrying out appropriate repairs
• Completing planned maintenance tasks in line with schedules, specifications and relevant compliance requirements
• Undertaking basic plumbing repairs and addressing leaks or other water-related issues
• Carrying out minor carpentry, painting, decorating and general building repairs
• Assembling, installing and dismantling office furniture as required
• Identifying and reporting safety concerns, potential hazards and maintenance issues
• Supporting the wider Facilities and Property team with general site duties and ad-hoc maintenance requirements
• Using our Trackplan maintenance system to manage and update maintenance requests and record completed work

What skills and experience do you need?

You will have previous experience in general building maintenance, facilities maintenance or a handyman role, along with good practical knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry and general repairs. You will also have good problem‑solving skills, the ability to work independently and a flexible approach to undertaking a variety of maintenance tasks. A good understanding of workplace health and safety is essential, along with a full UK driving licence.
