Job summary

HS2 Ltd. is seeking a civil/site engineer based in Coventry to support the Midlands works for Balfour Beatty VINCI. You will be responsible for setting out, surveying, supervising subcontractors, and ensuring permits and QA processes are in place for major assets across the region.

The role requires a degree in civil engineering or equivalent, plus site experience; driving licence and CSCS card are essential. Flexible working options and strong wellbeing support are offered.

Qualifications

• Degree in civil engineering or equivalent required.
• Previous site engineering experience preferred.
• Experience in RC works, drainage, highways or earthworks advantageous.
• Valid driving licence and CSCS Card required.
• Setting-out using level, EDM and GPS; ability to read drawings and schedules.
• Ability to produce detailed documentation for handover of works.

Responsibilities

• Ensure all permits are applied for and in place for site work.
• Complete Inspection and Test Plans and Quality Check Sheets promptly.
• Setting out and surveying and manage subcontractors.
• Manage document control and distribute information.
• Develop and approve procedures relevant to area of works.
• Approve method statements and risk assessments and ensure compliance.
• Liaise with the client regularly.
• Mark up design drawings to reflect completed works.

HS2, Britain’s new high-speed railway is at peak construction. Balfour Beatty VINCI is HS2’s construction partner in the Midlands, responsible for delivering 90km of the route, from Long Itchington in Warwickshire to the centre of Birmingham and on to Handsacre in Staffordshire.

Location

Based in Coventry - the South Region comprises Sublots 2B, 2A and 1A Long Itchington Wood. It stretches for approximately 39.2km from Finham Brook to Southam through a mixture of rural and suburban landscapes

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure all permits are applied for and in place, ready for site work to begin.
• Ensure the Inspection and Test Plans, and Quality Check Sheets are completed as soon as the checks can be completed.
• Setting out and surveying
• Management of subcontractors.
• Make effective use of document control to manage distribution of information.
• Develop and Approve relevant procedures specific to the area of works.
• Approve method statements and risk assessments and ensure they are being followed throughout the works.
• Regularly liaising with the client
• Ensure Design Drawings are marked up to reflect works completed as the works are finished
• Qualified to degree level in civil engineering or equivalent
• Previous site engineering experience preferred
• Experience in structural RC works preferred, would also consider good experience in drainage, highways and earthworks
• Holds a current driving license and CSCS Card
• Setting out techniques - ability to use level & EDM, plus GPS
• Reads and understands drawings and schedules
• Able to produce detailed documentation for handover of completed works
