Job description

General Assistant Gloucester
Contract: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: 12.21
Hours: 25 per week

An independent day school for girls and boys aged 3 to 18 in Gloucester, catering for 860 students and teachers daily. The school offers a core 2-course buffet lunch with a good level of hospitality weekly. This is a term-time only contract working 40.4 weeks, Monday to Friday, with some weekend hospitality. An additional benefit is free on-site parking.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a General Assistant to join our team at one of our locations in Gloucester.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in a fast-paced catering environment and enjoy working with a great team for a company passionate about food and customer service.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting the team with serving customers, replenishing stocks, and cleaning.
  • Preparing service areas for daily meals.
  • Setting up, serving, clearing, cleaning, and storing food, beverages, or equipment for special functions.
  • Preparing basic food items following hygiene and safety standards.
  • Replenishing stocks and consumables during service.
  • Managing waste and recycling appropriately.
  • Occasionally working evenings and weekends for events.
  • Adhering to food standards and controlling wastage.
  • Following Food Hygiene, Health & Safety policies, and allergen procedures.

Required skills:

  • Teamwork, good listening skills, initiative, personal hygiene, and presentation.
  • Food hygiene certification preferred.
  • Adaptability, reliability, honesty, and customer-focused attitude.
  • Willingness to learn and take responsibility.
  • Ability to handle moderate lifting and pushing.

Knowledge / competencies:

  • Level 2 Food Hygiene qualification.
  • Good verbal and written English skills.
  • Experience in customer service or food preparation preferred.
