Job summary

Kier Highways in Wellingborough is seeking a Ganger on a full‑time basis (40 hours per week, Mon–Fri). The role offers a competitive salary, enhanced pension, and broad benefits while you contribute to maintaining roads, footways, and structures in the local area.

You will lead on-site teams, manage daily works, and ensure safe working practices. A valid SMSTS/SSSTS or similar qualification and a full driving licence are required, with training and guidance provided to uphold Kier’s safety,

Responsibilities

  • Safekeeping and operation of specialist equipment, ensuring PUWER sheets are completed.
  • Undertaking repairs to highways assets including carriageways, footways, kerbs, signs and posts.
  • Provide guidance and training to colleagues, upholding Kier safety standards and cost-efficient use of materials.
  • Manage daily works, ensuring on-site safety for operatives and the public.
  • Conduct risk assessments to maintain safe-working procedures.
  • Plan work using drawings and technical documents, recording measurements and reporting as required.

We're looking for a Ganger to join our Highways team based in Wellingborough. Location: Wellingborough, Northamptonshire

Contract: Full time, 40 hours per week , Monday to Friday

Salary: £29,641.01 to £34,946.27 depending on experience + call out + overtime

What will you be responsible for?
  • Safekeeping and operation of specialist equipment, making sure that equipment is properly maintained and all PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998) sheets are completed correctly
  • Undertaking a variety of repair works to highways assets including carriageways, footways, kerbs, soft estate, signs and posts and ironworks
  • Giving guidance and training to colleagues, working to Kier, Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality standards, ensuring the economic use of materials
  • Managing the works daily, ensuring the site is safe for both the operative and public
  • Conducting point of work risk assessments to ensure that the work area is properly protected and safe-working procedures are being maintained
  • Planning work with reference to drawings and technical documents as appropriate, using craft/technical skills, carrying out the work to the necessary standard of quality, taking measurements where required and completing any reports
