Job description

Help people affected by gambling harm in the East Midlands take positive steps towards recovery.

Founded in 1997, GamCare is one of the leading providers of information, advice and support for anyone affected by gambling harms. We operate the National Gambling Helpline, deliver free treatment services across multiple regions of Great Britain and raise awareness of gambling harms through prevention programmes.

At GamCare, we believe that everyone affected by gambling harm deserves access to compassionate, effective support. As we continue to develop and expand our treatment services, we're looking for a Gambling Support Practitioner to help individuals regain control, rebuild confidence and make lasting changes to their lives.

This is an opportunity to make a real difference to people facing often complex and challenging circumstances. Working as part of a supportive, multidisciplinary team, you'll build trusted relationships with individuals affected by gambling harm, helping them understand their needs, identify their goals and develop personalised plans for recovery. Through a combination of face-to-face, telephone and digital support, you'll deliver evidence-informed interventions, manage your own caseload and work alongside colleagues and partner organisations to achieve positive, sustainable outcomes.

The role is not limited to qualified clinical specialists but open to all candidates with the relevant experience and skills in similar roles.

About you

We're looking for an empathetic, resilient and skilled practitioner who is motivated by helping people overcome challenges and achieve positive change. You'll bring experience from health, social care, mental health, addiction services or another relevant support setting, with the ability to assess individual needs, manage a caseload and deliver person-centred interventions. You'll be confident building relationships with people from different backgrounds, recognising and responding to risk, and working collaboratively to ensure individuals receive safe, effective and coordinated support.

Experience of cognitive behavioural or motivational approaches will be important, alongside strong communication, organisational and record-keeping skills. You'll also have a relevant qualification or equivalent practical experience, a commitment to reflective practice and professional development, and the flexibility to travel across the East Midlands when required.

You will be experienced in delivering strengths-based and person-centred practice, including Motivational Interviewing and CBT-informed approaches to support behaviour change and recovery.

You don't need to have worked specifically in gambling support to make a difference here. We welcome applications from people with transferable experience, the right skills and a genuine commitment to supporting recovery.

What we offer

We want colleagues to feel supported, valued and able to balance their work with life outside work. Benefits include:

  • 33 days' annual leave including bank holidays, pro-rated for part-time colleagues and increasing to a maximum of 38 days with service
  • A generous pension scheme, with 6% employer contribution
  • Discretionary company sick pay after six months' service
  • A 24-hour Employee Assistance Programme
  • Premium access to the CALM app for you and up to five dependants

The role covers the East Midlands (Nottingham, Leicester and Northampton) and is home-based with travel across the region.

The closing date for applications is Sunday 1 November 2026, 11:59pm.

Pre-assessment screening calls may take place on 5-6 November 2026, with interviews expected on 12-13 November 2026.

GamCare is also seeking Gambling Support Practitioners to play a key role supporting people who are experiencing gambling related harms across London, the South East, and Yorkshire and the Humber.

GamCare welcomes applications from people with lived experience of gambling-related harm and is committed to equality, diversity and inclusion. This role requires an enhanced DBS check. Visa sponsorship is available only in very limited circumstances, and applicants must have the right to work in the UK.
