Job summary

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is seeking a Gaelic Medium Primary Teacher for Uist Schools. The post is a 21-hour per week maternity cover with a salary of £27,009–£33,442 per year, including the Distant Islands Allowance. Fluency in Gaelic is essential and PVG scheme membership is required.

Appointment to the post will be on the first point of the grade, and interviews are held in person. The closing date is 26 October 2026.

Qualifications

• The successful candidate must have an appropriate degree / diploma and GTC Scotland Registration.
• Fluency in Gaelic is essential.

Responsibilities

• Teach assigned classes with preparation and correction.
• Develop the school curriculum.
• Assess, record and report on pupils’ work.
• Prepare pupils for examinations and assist with exam administration.
• Provide advice and guidance to pupils on educational issues.
• Promote health, welfare and safety of pupils.
• Collaborate with parents, support staff and other professionals.
• Undertake continuing professional development.
• Participate in planning to raise achievement and review.
• Contribute to the broader needs and good order of the school.
