Location: South East London (Greater London)

Working Pattern: 35 hours per week, term time only

Salary: £24,348 - £25,265 (Spine Points 17 to 18)

Opportunity

Are you passionate about breaking down barriers to education and empowering individuals to reach their full potential? We are partnering with a forward‑thinking Further Education provider to find a dedicated Learning Support Assistant (LSA). In this incredibly rewarding role, you will work directly with young people and adults with Special Educational Needs (SEN), helping them access vital learning programmes, develop independent study skills, and achieve their long‑term educational outcomes. This is a fantastic chance to make a tangible, lasting difference in a student's life journey while expanding your own professional development within an inclusive environment.

About the Setting

Our client is a vibrant, multi‑cultural Further Education college group situated across South East London. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and robust support structures, the college provides excellent facilities and tailored resources to ensure every learner thrives. You will join a collaborative, passionate team of support managers, coordinators, and curriculum staff who are completely dedicated to student well‑being, equality, and diversity.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Learning & Accessibility Support: Work closely with teaching staff and support coordinators to facilitate access to college services, learning programmes, and college‑led activities.
  • EHCP & Skill Development: Guide learners to meet the specific outcomes outlined in their Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs) while actively fostering self‑advocacy and independent learning skills.
  • Personal Care & Well‑being: Provide hands‑on assistance and supervision for students with additional physical, medical, or mobility needs, ensuring their personal care, dignity, and safety at all times.
  • Intervention & Progression: Anticipate potential barriers to learning, develop proactive intervention strategies, and contribute to person‑centred support plans and progress reviews.
  • First Aid Duties: Act as an active, designated College First Aider on‑site.
  • Collaboration: Maintain excellent communication with internal teams as well as external agencies, parents, and key workers to ensure holistic care.
What We Are Looking For
  • Qualifications: A good standard of general education with a minimum of Level 2 Maths and English (or a firm willingness to work towards and complete it). You must also hold or be willing to gain a First Aid certificate.
  • Characteristics: Outgoing, enthusiastic, determined, and highly adaptable. You should be comfortable working on your own initiative when required.
  • Knowledge & Experience: An understanding of safeguarding within education and the specific difficulties faced by individuals with learning difficulties. Experience or a strong willingness to assist with personal care and mobility is essential.
  • Desirable Extras: Previous experience working with SEN learners in a secondary or FE environment is highly advantageous, as is the ability to communicate using Makaton, BSL, or Sign‑a‑Long.
  • Commute: Ability to travel reliably to college sites across South East London.
Safeguarding & Compliance

Our client is strictly committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff to share this commitment. This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, a right‑to‑work validation, and a thorough review of your employment history to account for any CV gaps.
