CPJ Field, the UK’s oldest funeral directors, currently have a position for an experienced or trainee Funeral Director to join our Heritage & Sons Funeral Homes in North Buckinghamshire (Bletchley, Buckingham and Winslow). You will oversee smooth operation of the funeral homes and lead the team to deliver compassionate, professional services.

You will guide families through funeral arrangements, mentor colleagues, manage financial matters, and participate in a 24-hour call-out rota.

Funeral Director / Trainee Funeral Director

We currently have a position for an experienced or trainee Funeral Director to join our friendly team at our Heritage & Sons Funeral Homes in North Buckinghamshire (Buckingham, Bletchley and Winslow).

Responsible for the smooth running of the funeral homes, this role is suitable for those who enjoy the challenge of leadership and setting high performance goals for both the success of the funeral homes and the service that the team delivers. There may also be the need for occasional support in other local funeral homes in Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire or Hertfordshire.

Key Responsibilities

• Guiding and advising families through the experience of organising a funeral, including meeting customers at locations other than the funeral home, and supporting customers with other funeral related services such as preparing ashes, arranging masonry orders, offering to arrange pre-payment plans for example.
• Manage and help colleagues contribute their best at all times, teaching others the Company’s standard of performance by role, and resolving any deficiencies in the team, using the coaching support of your collaboration with the General Manager or Principal Funeral Director.
• Understand and champion the Company’s standard of performance in every role and where necessary mentor, coach, discipline and praise colleagues on their work and where required teach colleagues.
• Be the Guardian of standards ensuring that all colleagues contribute their best; good communication (listening, questioning, challenging, briefing, praising and team problem-solving) is key to this.
• “Lead by example” in the funeral home working alongside colleagues, demonstrating and living the standard of performance required by the Company as well as organising the work and people so they can deliver exceptional service.
• Be a critical friend to other Funeral Directors and colleagues in cases where their desire to deliver is not helping others to, or where their performance is less than their best.
• Demonstrate the attitude needed to do a great job; positive, proactive, team-spirited, dynamic and open to learning, innovative.
• Managing all financial matters in relation to the funeral; including responsibility for collection of debts.
• Promoting the business within the local community and encouraging colleagues to do likewise. In particular, taking a lead on our Never Alone initiatives, that seek to help tackle social isolation and loneliness within the communities we serve, both as a consequence of bereavement and for other reasons.
• Providing holiday and sickness cover for colleagues based at other funeral homes.
• The role requires you to participate in the 24-hour call-out system in accordance with the local rota arrangements on a rota basis.

The role will be based at our Heritage & Sons Funeral Homes in Bletchley and Buckingham.
