Fund Controller - JP Morgan - London - 7 months contract - ONSITE - PAYE

We are seeking a Fund Controller to join JP Morgan's EMEA Alternatives Global Transportation Groupon an initial 7 months contract,to oversee its transportation investments globally across several fund structures. You should have significant post-qualification experience with transportation, private equity, infrastructure, or a real estate accounting background to drive the financial management and reporting process, which includes client and internal reporting requirements.

Business Overview:
JP Morgan Asset Management Inc. (JPMAM) manages employee benefit plans for public and private institutional investors and provides investment management services for a broad spectrum of other institutional investors including foundations, endowments, sovereign governments, defined contribution plans and insurance companies, as well as other institutional and individual investors through mutual funds, investment partnerships and other pooled investment vehicles.

JPMAM is an active participant in the global equity, fixed income, emerging, and currency markets as well as in real estate, transportation, and infrastructure markets.

JPMAM Alternatives identifies, analyses, acquires, and manages real estate, global transportation, and infrastructure assets through a variety of ownership structures. As investment manager on behalf of its clients, JPMAM develops, enhances, and operates these assets. JPMAM also assesses capital markets and controls investment risk in determining the optimal financing, diversification, and disposition strategies for the managed assets.

Role:

As a Fund Controller, you will work closely with an experienced group of professionals whilst being involved in all aspects of financial reporting, analysis, accounting, internal controls, and oversight related to transportation (maritime, aviation, and other land-based) investments.

Responsibilities:

• Provide oversight and support in managing Global Transportation Funds; develop and maintain a financial infrastructure that operates with the efficiency and flexibility to respond to the demands of a growth-oriented business; ensure adherence to responsibilities and deadlines.
• Review and oversight of the quarterly accounting and financial reporting process; continually improve the level and content of reporting and communication.
• Actively manage fund structures operationally, including cash management, vendor management an investor reporting.
• Review and understanding of investment structures, debt documents, partnership agreements, and sale & purchase agreements; Evaluate the accounting and reporting issues related to various deal structures and proposals.
• Collaborate with the investments team to facilitate effective deal execution.
• Oversight of financial due diligence for transactions by working with the relevant individuals within Global Transportation as well as portfolio companies’ management teams and third parties such as sellers, JV partners, legal counsel etc.
• Broadly interact with independent eternal auditors, tax practitioners, legal advisors, and third-party service providers
• Actively participate in the determination and review of investment valuations.
• Managing and preparing SPV budgets, funding analysis and working with lenders.
• Oversight and review of reporting from joint venture partners and portfolio companies’ finance team.
• Ensure that administrator/partner accounting systems and records are properly controlled and periodically audited.
• Develop and maintain relationships with all internal and external clients and consultants; assist and coordinate responses to client and consultant requests.
• Calculate and maintain performance data for individual assets (AIMR, IRRs).
• Review and oversight of management analysis including asset, fund and business level budgeting and reporting.
• Management of liquidity positions of the various SPVs and assisting with the management and operation of credit facilities.
• Support a range of other Fund related activities such as capital calls, distribution, fee calculations.

Qualifications & skills:

• Experience in open-end or closed-end funds, limited partnerships, and operating company investments.
• Project management: ability to manage and organize resources, conduct effective presentations, facilitate meetings, and gain consensus around issues.
• Ability to act decisively, form opinions, solve problems and make recommendations.
• Ability to cultivate strong relationships internally (within the team) and externally (within the broader business).
• Ability to interact with Senior Portfolio and Asset Managers and draw on the experience of the wider team to solve issues and analyse results.
• Capable of handling multiple tasks efficiently and delivering effective outcomes.
• Understanding of US GAAP, IFRS and able to work with other GAAPs.
• Chartered Accountant (ACA or ACCA) equivalent required. Big 4 or mid-sized training.
• Familiarity with currency implications/accounting treatment, Fair Market Value accounting, Familiarity with IFRS, US GAAP quarter and year end reporting and auditing.
• Current knowledge on industry accounting and tax trends/issues.
• Computer literacy and strong knowledge of Excel.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities and Skills

• Experience in open- ended funds would be an advantage.
• Experience of working in fast-paced, transaction-intensive environment is advantageous.
