Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to deliver Maths, English and Science sessions in Alternative Provision and outreach settings across Nottingham. The role is part-time and long-term, focusing on disengaged students and personalised learning.

You will adapt lessons to meet individual needs, manage behaviours and help students make meaningful academic progress. CPD and ongoing support are included in the package.

Qualifications

• Qualified tutor with experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and English.
• Experience supporting Science learning.
• Experience working with disengaged students in Alternative Provision or similar settings.

Responsibilities

Are you an experienced Functional Skills Tutor with a passion for supporting disengaged students and helping them achieve their potential?

Do you have experience delivering engaging Maths, English and Science lessons to students who struggle within mainstream education?

Are you patient, adaptable and confident in delivering personalised learning to students in Alternative Provision (AP) and outreach settings?

TeacherActive is proud to be working with an Alternative Provision supporting students who have become disengaged from mainstream education across Nottingham. The provision focuses on providing individualised learning opportunities, helping young people rebuild their confidence, develop essential skills and re-engage with education in a supportive environment.

We are looking to appoint a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor on a part-time, long-term basis, delivering tuition across AP and outreach settings. The successful Functional Skills Tutor will primarily deliver Maths, English and Science sessions, adapting lessons to meet individual learning needs, managing challenging behaviours and supporting students to make meaningful academic progress.

The successful Functional Skills Tutor will have:

• A relevant teaching, tutoring or education qualification (desirable)
• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and English, with the ability to support Science learning
• Experience working with disengaged students, Alternative Provision (AP) or students outside mainstream education
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to adapt teaching to individual learning needs
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with young people
• A patient, resilient and flexible approach to supporting students with barriers to learning
