Job summary

TeacherActive is seeking a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor to deliver Maths, English and Science in Alternative Provision and outreach settings around Nottingham. The role is part-time and long-term, paid on a PAYE basis with competitive hourly rates.

The tutor will adapt lessons to individual learning needs, manage challenging behaviours and help disengaged students make meaningful academic progress in a supportive education environment.

Qualifications

• A relevant teaching, tutoring or education qualification (desirable)
• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and English, with the ability to support Science learning
• Experience working with disengaged students, Alternative Provision (AP) or students outside mainstream education
• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to adapt teaching to individual learning needs
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with young people
• A patient, resilient and flexible approach to supporting students with barriers to learning

Job Title: Functional Skills Tutor

Salary: £20 - £25 per hour

Are you an experienced Functional Skills Tutor with a passion for supporting disengaged students and helping them achieve their potential?

Do you have experience delivering engaging Maths, English and Science lessons to students who struggle within mainstream education?

Are you patient, adaptable and confident in delivering personalised learning to students in Alternative Provision (AP) and outreach settings?

TeacherActive is proud to be working with an Alternative Provision supporting students who have become disengaged from mainstream education across Nottingham. The provision focuses on providing individualised learning opportunities, helping young people rebuild their confidence, develop essential skills and re-engage with education in a supportive environment.

We are looking to appoint a dedicated Functional Skills Tutor on a part-time, long-term basis, delivering tuition across AP and outreach settings. The successful Functional Skills Tutor will primarily deliver Maths, English and Science sessions, adapting lessons to meet individual learning needs, managing challenging behaviours and supporting students to make meaningful academic progress.

The successful Functional Skills Tutor will have:

• A relevant teaching, tutoring or education qualification (desirable)

• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and English, with the ability to support Science learning

• Experience working with disengaged students, Alternative Provision (AP) or students outside mainstream education

• Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to adapt teaching to individual learning needs
