Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking a Functional Skills Tutor to deliver English and Maths support in Gateshead. You will work with learners who may have SEND or SEMH needs, providing one-to-one or small-group sessions to help them build essential skills and progress.

The role offers flexibility with part-time or full-time options, pay up to £30 per hour, and opportunities to access CPD training. Right to work in the UK and an enhanced DBS are required.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in Functional Skills (Maths and English).
• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS (child workforce) on the update service, or willing to apply.
• Two years of references (education or employment).

Responsibilities

• Deliver 1:1 tutoring in Functional Skills Maths and/or English.
• Create personalised lesson plans to address learning gaps.
• Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback to students and families.
• Foster a supportive and motivating learning environment.
• Complete daily attendance and weekly reports.

Functional Skills Tutor - English & Maths

Prospero Teaching is proud to work alongside Local Authorities, schools, and SEND services across Gateshead to provide tailored tuition and educational support to young people who require additional help outside of mainstream education.

In this role, you will support learners who may have SEND, SEMH needs, anxiety, medical needs, or other barriers that have affected their access to education. Through one-to-one or small-group sessions, you will provide engaging, individualised tuition designed around each learner's needs, abilities, and goals.

Your support will help students develop essential English and Maths skills, build confidence, re-engage with learning, and make meaningful progress towards their educational and personal goals.

Position Details:

• Pay: Up to 30 per hour (depending on experience/qualifications)
• Hours: Up to 15 hours per week
