Job summary

Prospero Teaching currently seeks a Functional Skills Tutor to deliver personalised English and Maths tuition to students with SEND, SEMH and other barriers to learning in Houghton le Spring. The role supports learners through one-to-one or small group sessions, building confidence and essential skills.

Key details include pay up to £30/hour, up to 15 hours per week, ASAP start, and ongoing role with access to learning resources and CPD training.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Functional Skills Maths and/or English to learners with diverse needs.
• Right to work in the UK.
• Enhanced DBS (child workforce) on update service or willingness to apply.
• Two years of references (education or employment).

• Create personalised lesson plans to address learning gaps.
• Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback to students and families.

Prospero Teaching is proud to work alongside Local Authorities, schools, and SEND services to provide tailored tuition for young people who require additional support outside of mainstream education.

We are currently recruiting Functional Skills Tutors in to deliver personalised English and Maths tuition to students with a variety of learning needs and educational backgrounds.

In this role, you will support learners who may have SEND, SEMH, anxiety, medical needs, or other barriers that have impacted their access to education. Through one-to-one or small group sessions, you'll deliver engaging, individualised learning that helps students develop essential skills, increase their confidence, and make meaningful progress towards their educational goals.

Position Details:

• Pay: Up to 30 per hour (depending on experience/qualifications)
• Hours: Up to 15 hours per week
• Start Date: ASAP
