Job summary

Tradewind Recruitment is recruiting for dedicated Functional Skills Tutors to provide personalised 1:1 English and Maths tuition in North Tyneside. This role supports learners who may have EHCPs, SEND, SEMH or other barriers to education, with immediate start dates and flexible hours.

You will tailor sessions to individual learners, track progress and adapt methods for learners with additional needs, enabling successful re-engagement with education.

Qualifications

• Experience delivering Functional Skills English and Maths in one-to-one or small group settings.
• Proven ability to support learners with SEND, SEMH or barriers to education.
• Patient, flexible and adaptable approach with strong relationship-building skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging 1:1 Functional Skills English and Maths tuition.
• Plan sessions around each learner’s needs and goals.
• Monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Keep accurate records of attendance, progress and achievements.
• Adapt approaches for learners with SEND, SEMH or additional needs.
• Build positive relationships with learners and parents where applicable.

Tradewind Recruitment are proud to be working closely with North Tyneside Council to provide dedicated tuition and educational support to children and young people across the area.

We are currently looking for passionate and experienced Functional Skills Tutors to provide personalised 1:1 English and Maths tuition, with immediate opportunities available.

This is a rewarding opportunity to work with learners who may be unable to access mainstream education or who require additional support with their learning. Students may have EHCPs, SEND, SEMH needs, behavioural needs or other barriers to education, so we are looking for patient, adaptable and engaging educators who can build positive relationships with young people.

Tuition will be delivered on a 1:1 basis, allowing you to tailor each session around the individual learner's needs, ability and educational goals. Opportunities can vary from a few hours per week through to more regular tuition.

What You'll Be Doing

• Delivering engaging, high-quality 1:1 Functional Skills English and Maths tuition
• Planning sessions around each learner's individual needs and ability
• Helping students re-engage with education and build their confidence
• Adapting your approach for learners with SEND, SEMH and additional needs
• Monitoring progress and providing constructive, supportive feedback
• Keeping accurate records of attendance, progress and achievements
• Building positive and supportive relationships with learners

What We're Looking For

• A teaching qualification (QTS preferred) or strong experience as a Tutor, Teacher or Teaching Assistant
• Experience delivering Functional Skills English and/or Maths
• Experience supporting children or young people with SEND, SEMH or additional needs
• A patient, flexible and adaptable approach
• An Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one with our support
