Job summary

Veolia is seeking a Functional Safety Engineer based at Ellesmere Port High Temperature Incinerator to lead a robust safety management program and provide EC&I support across site projects. The role focuses on functional safety compliance, hazard analysis, and continuous improvement of safety systems within a major waste-to-energy context.

The ideal candidate will have experience with safety instrumented systems, COMAH sites, and strong stakeholder communication to champion a proactive safety

Qualifications

• Experience in management of functional safety lifecycle for safety instrumented systems.
• TUV Functional safety engineer certification preferred.
• Experience leading hazard identification and risk assessment (PHA/HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA).
• Experience working with COMAH sites.
• Exceptional communication skills with ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Based at Ellesmere Port High Temperature Incinerator, ensure a robust functional safety management system to achieve compliance.
• Provide EC&I technical support to site projects as required.
• Support COMAH activities including intervention visits and safety report development.
• Support long term hazardous waste functional safety improvement.
• Be the Veolia functional safety subject matter expert.
• Ensure audits cover all aspects of functional safety.
• Develop and work with internal functions on asset strategies.
• Support functional safety/process safety competency development.
• Hazard study support as required (PHA/HAZID/HAZOP/LOPA).
