Job summary

National Grid is recruiting a Functional Effectiveness Manager based at the Warwick office with hybrid working. You will help drive performance and organisational effectiveness across the Asset Management function.

You will partner with the Director of Asset Management and senior leaders to provide structure, insight and strategic delivery, ensuring priorities, risks and opportunities are clearly tracked. A degree is required; professional qualifications in business management or project

Qualifications

  • Experience in a business management, performance, governance, PMO or similar role within a large organisation.
  • Strong track record in performance reporting and senior leadership support.
  • Ability to turn complex information into clear, actionable insights.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Asset Management leadership team's performance rhythm and key governance discussions.
  • Own the monthly Asset Management Performance Pack for executive-level review.
  • Support the Director and Senior Leadership Team with governance and strategic delivery.
  • Develop and maintain the department's capability framework and workforce priorities.
  • Collaborate with Finance, HR, Communications, Regulation and digital teams.
  • Manage the Risk & Opportunity Log and ensure actions are tracked to completion.
  • Communicate department strategy and priorities to internal customers.

Job Purpose

National Grid Electricity Transmission's Asset Management team plays a critical role in shaping the future of the UK's electricity transmission network. As our Functional Effectiveness Manager, you'll work closely with the Director of Asset Management and Senior Leadership Team to ensure the function operates at its very best.

This is a highly visible role focused on driving performance, capability and organisational effectiveness across the department. You'll bring structure, insight and strategic oversight, enabling senior leaders to make proactive decisions, develop future capability and maintain a clear view of priorities, risks and opportunities.

What you'll do
  • Lead and manage the Asset Management leadership team's performance rhythm, ensuring the right discussions, decisions and actions happen at the right time.
  • Own the monthly Asset Management Performance Pack, bringing together operational, financial, capability and risk insights into a clear executive-level view.
  • Support the Director and Senior Leadership Team with governance, decision-making, action tracking and strategic delivery.
  • Develop and maintain the department's capability framework, helping identify future skills requirements, training needs and workforce priorities.
  • Build strong relationships across Finance, HR, Communications, Regulation, Digital and operational teams to ensure effective collaboration and alignment.
  • Own the Asset Management Risk & Opportunity Log, facilitating reviews and ensuring actions are tracked through to completion.
  • Capture and represent the voice of internal customers, ensuring stakeholder feedback is understood and reflected in departmental priorities.
  • Develop and deliver internal communication plans that connect colleagues to the department's strategy, priorities and achievements.
  • Monitor emerging business, regulatory and organisational developments, providing forward-looking insight and horizon scanning to help the leadership team stay ahead of future challenges.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance how the function operates, embedding a culture of performance, accountability and learning.
About you

We're looking for a highly organised and performance focused professional who can comfortably manage multiple priorities while building strong relationships across a complex organisation.

You’ll bring
  • Experience in a business management, performance, governance, PMO, organisational effectiveness or similar role within a large and complex organisation.
  • A strong track record of supporting senior leadership teams with performance management, governance and decision-making.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence and build trusted relationships at all levels.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to turn complex information into clear, actionable insight.
  • Experience producing performance reporting, dashboards or executive-level management information.
  • A structured and proactive approach, with the ability to identify issues, opportunities and trends before they become challenges.
  • Confidence working across multiple disciplines including people, performance, risk, communications and business planning.
  • An understanding of organisational capability, workforce planning or skills development would be advantageous.
  • Experience working with financial performance information would be beneficial, although deep financial expertise is not required.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment where priorities can evolve and no two days are the same.
Qualifications
  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience.
  • Professional qualifications in Business Management, Project Management, CIPD, APM or similar are advantageous but not essential.
What you’ll get

A competitive salary between £60,000 – £75,000 – dependent on capability

As well as your base salary, you will receive a bonus of up to 30% of your salary for stretch performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%. You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
