Job description

Full-Time 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant - Bolton

Are you passionate about supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and complex additional needs? A welcoming primary school in Bolton is looking for a dedicated 1:1 SEND Teaching Assistant to provide consistent, individualised support to a child who requires a high level of adult assistance throughout the school day.

This is a full-time opportunity starting ASAP, with the potential to become permanent for the right candidate. The child experiences significant communication difficulties and needs a patient, reliable adult who can build a trusting relationship, provide consistent support and help them engage with their surroundings.

The Role
  • Dedicated 1:1 support - providing consistent, close supervision and individualised support throughout the school day.
  • ASD and complex needs - supporting a child with high levels of need, including significant barriers to communication and engagement.
  • Learning and development - balancing the child's individual needs with meaningful learning opportunities, encouraging progress, independence and participation wherever possible.
  • Communication support - using patience, creativity and appropriate strategies to help the child communicate, interact and express their needs.
  • Consistency and routine - creating a safe, predictable environment and working closely with the class teacher and wider team to maintain a consistent approach.
  • Positive relationships - developing trust with the child while remaining calm, nurturing and resilient when faced with challenging situations.
Who would suit this role?

The school needs someone who understands that supporting a child with complex SEND involves much more than supervision. You must be committed to their learning, communication and development, while recognising when they need additional support, reassurance or time to regulate. Previous experience supporting children with ASD and high needs is highly desirable.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a genuine difference to a child's school experience, joining a supportive team with the possibility of a long‑term, permanent position.
