Location: Remote but travel to London required as and when needed for team meet-ups at the office

About the role

DMG Media is in search of an experienced developer to join our distributed development teamin delivering new features, functionality and maintenance for our enterprise-level WordPresssites and related services. As a developer for DMG Media you will primarily focus on productdevelopment and maintenance for inews.co.uk, but from time to time you may also work onshared services that support one or many of our sister brands.

At DMG Media you will become part of an established technology team where everyone cancreate and advance new ideas. Our dynamic, adaptable structure allows developers thefreedom to build and create software that is highly effective and purpose-built, without thetypical burdens of traditional enterprise-level organisations.

This is a hybrid role with the option to work from our offices in Kensington, London.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and develop new features for our enterprise-level WordPressproperty, inews.co.uk
• Contribute to and maintain shared plugins for all DMG Media’s WordPress properties
• Monitor and improve response times, database query times and core web vital scores.
• Participate in discussions about technology choices based on business value,scalability, maintainability and project delivery performance
• Independently prioritize and manage work with little direction, while adhering to projecttimelines in a fast-paced environment
• Debug and troubleshoot website issues raised by our editorial and support staff

Required Skills:

• 8+ years of experience with WordPress development
• Excellent understanding of the WordPress and Gutenberg ecosystem and developmentbest practices
• Experience in creating custom Gutenberg blocks, custom RSS feeds, and WP-JSON APIendpoints.
• Expertise with modern performant HTML, CSS, and PHP
• Strong understanding of Git and VCS principles.
• Knowledge of Agile methodology and project planning tools like JIRA
• Capability to individually see a full-stack project from beginning to end
• Understanding and knowledge of Core Web Vitals and the importance of them
• Excellent communication skills owing to a remote role within a distributed developmentteam.
• Good understanding of how to use Chrome DevTools to debug issues on the front end
• Be a strong problem-solver.
• Experience with the WordPress VIP platform
• Enterprise experience of building WordPress at scale – Edge and object Caching, Queryoptimization and WP Cron
• Knowledge of monitoring tools such as New Relic and Kibana
• Experience with Typescript / Webpack
• Knowledge and use of WP-CLI and creation of custom commands
• Integrating and using AWS services (S3, Lambda, EC2, API Gateway)
• Knowledge and experience of developing for and publishing to Apple News
• Knowledge and use of CI tools such as CircleCI, GitHub Actions and TeamCity
• Experience writing bash or python scripts on an ad-hoc basis
• Familiarity or experience with integrating subscription experience platforms such asPiano.io or Zephr
• Willingness to travel to London, if viable, for team meet-ups at the office every so often.
