Job summary

The Light in County Durham, operated by Durham County Council, is recruiting Front of House Officers for part-time, 7-hour, 14-hour and casual contracts. The role involves welcoming visitors, handling enquiries, and supporting day-to-day operations at a major new cultural venue.

You will engage with visitors, contractors and partners in a friendly, professional manner and contribute to a safe, accessible and well-run environment while working as part of a motivated team.

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 in a relevant area, or an equivalent qualification or level of experience in venue operations.
  • First Award qualification (or willingness to work towards one).
  • Experience with diverse customers in a front-facing role, using POS software.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of day-to-day operations as part of Front of House team.
  • Be the first point of contact for customers, contractors and partners, handling enquiries professionally.
  • Engage visitors and colleagues to ensure The Light is welcoming, safe, accessible and well-run.
  • Contribute to meeting income targets while delivering high standards of service.

Job description

We are looking for Front of House Officers to join the team at The Light and we have some part time 7hr, 14hr and casual contracts to offer for the right candidates.

Having opened recently on 22nd August 2026, The Light brings together art, science, history, creativity and community, welcoming up to 100,000 visitors a year.

This is a rare opportunity to play a defining role in launching a major new cultural venue.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

As a member of the Front of House team, the Front of House Officer will support in the delivery of all aspects of day-to-day operations. You will be part of a positive, motivated team to ensure income targets are met or exceeded, while ensuring The Light is welcoming, safe, accessible and brilliantly run.

You will be:

  • A naturally charismatic and friendly person who loves to engage with visitors and fellow team members.
  • A team player with experience in venue operations and customer service.
  • A skilled problem solver and communicator when it comes to delivering exceptional Front of House operations.
  • The first point of contact for customers, contractors and partners, welcoming visitors and ensuring that enquiries are dealt with professionally, politely and promptly.
  • Passionate about heritage, art, the community, and contributing towards building an positive, inclusive and supportive team.
