Job summary

Durham County Council invites applications for Front of House Officer to join The Light, a major new cultural venue opening in County Durham. We are offering part-time 7‑hour, 14‑hour and casual contracts for the right candidates, with a focus on welcoming visitors and delivering day-to-day operations.

You will be the first point of contact for customers, contractors and partners, work as part of a friendly team, handle inquiries with professionalism, and help ensure The Light is safe,

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification or experience in venue operations.
• First Aid qualification or willingness to work towards one.
• Experience with diverse customers in a front-facing role and using POS software.

Responsibilities

• Deliver day-to-day operations as part of Front of House.
• Be the first point of contact for customers, contractors and partners.
• Ensure enquiries are dealt with courteously and promptly.
• Contribute to a welcoming, safe and well-run venue atmosphere.

Job description

We are looking for Front of House Officers to join the team at The Light and we have some part time 7hr, 14hr and casual contracts to offer for the right candidates.

Having opened recently on 22nd August 2026, The Light brings together art, science, history, creativity and community, welcoming up to 100,000 visitors a year.

This is a rare opportunity to play a defining role in launching a major new cultural venue.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

As a member of the Front of House team, the Front of House Officer will support in the delivery of all aspects of day-to-day operations. You will be part of a positive, motivated team to ensure income targets are met or exceeded, while ensuring The Light is welcoming, safe, accessible and brilliantly run.

• A naturally charismatic and friendly person who loves to engage with visitors and fellow team members.


• A team player with experience in venue operations and customer service.


• A skilled problem solver and communicator when it comes to delivering exceptional Front of House operations.


• The first point of contact for customers, contractors and partners, welcoming visitors and ensuring that enquiries are dealt with professionally, politely and promptly.


• Passionate about heritage, art, the community, and contributing towards building an positive, inclusive and supportive team.

WHAT WILL I NEED?

You’ll have an NVQ Level 2 in a relevant area, or an equivalent qualification or level of experience in venue operations, and a First Aid qualfication (or willingness to work towards one).

You’ll bring experience of working with diverse customers in a front-facing role, using POS software.
