Job summary

GAS Textiles is seeking a freelance studio assistant to join a small, busy workshop in London. The role involves hands-on fabric cutting, sewing repairs, pattern cutting and helping with fabric sourcing and inventory management. You will work alongside a creative team in a busy studio environment.

Ideal candidates will have basic sewing skills, a keen eye for accuracy and a proactive, reliable approach. Training on workshop equipment can be provided where needed.

Qualifications

• Basic sewing skills, both hand and machine, ideally on industrial sewing machines but this can be taught.
• A high level of accuracy and excellent attention to detail.
• Be reliable, punctual and able to work well within a small team.

Responsibilities

• Cutting and preparation of fabric and components for construction and application of heat transfer prints.
• Basic pattern cutting.
• Finishing tasks such as trimming, pressing and eyeleting.
• Simple hand and machine sewing for repairs.
• Sourcing fabrics and components and maintaining the inventory.
• Moving stock and materials around the workroom and keeping the space tidy.
