Job summary

Assistive Solutions is hiring a Freelance Study Skills Tutor to support higher education students with learning difficulties in the Durham area. Sessions are one-on-one, typically one hour weekly, and tailored to each student’s needs. You’ll use assistive technology and prepare personalised learning plans, with monthly invoicing summaries.

The role requires DSA-approved SpLD credentials, a degree (Level 6+), teaching qualifications, autism training, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Membership of a DSA-approved professional body for SpLD support.
• Degree level: Hold an undergraduate degree (Level 6 or above).
• Teaching qualification required.
• Autism-specific training (NAS NMH or equivalent).
• Experience providing 1:1 study skills support for SpLDs.
• Knowledge of organisation, time management, academic writing, independent learning.
• Ability to tailor support to individual learning needs.

Responsibilities

• Deliver focused study skills sessions tailored to dyslexia and autism.
• Develop and update personalised learning plans.
• Regularly revisit and adjust plans for progress.
• Establish rapport with students to identify needs and methods.
• Log sessions and maintain records using the Assistive App.
• Provide monthly sessions summaries for invoicing.
• Communicate with NMH admin when needed.
