Job summary

SILA Linguists is recruiting freelance Slovak interpreters and translators for education, social care, healthcare, employment and legal assignments in the UK. Interpreters who also speak Romani are particularly welcome.

Common assignments include school meetings, children’s services and family court, healthcare appointments, housing and employment. Translators work on certificates, school and medical records, and court documents.

Qualifications

• Fluent in Slovak and English at a professional level.
• Qualifications such as DPSI, DPI, translation degree, or equivalent experience; CIOL, ITI or NRPSI membership welcome.
• Romani or Czech language is an advantage.
• Willingness to undergo a DBS check where required.
• Right to work in the UK for on-site work.
• Reliable internet access and suitable equipment for video/telephone work.

Responsibilities

• Interpret in education, children's services and family proceedings with cultural sensitivity.
• Translate Slovak certificates and records for UK proceedings.
• Maintain accuracy, impartiality and confidentiality on every assignment.
• Prepare for bookings by reviewing briefs and researching terminology.
• Check translations against sources before delivery and meet deadlines.
• Transcribe and translate Slovak recordings for legal, research and media clients when interested.
